COTECXIN? Antimalarial PRESENTATION Box of 8 tablets under blister containing 60 mg of dihydroartemisinin (DHA) Paediatric suspension: 80 ml bottle containing 160 mg of DHA. Dry powder, coconut flavoured ; to be prepared according to the instructions on the label Box of 6 suppositories containing 40 mg of DHA PHARMACOLOGY COTECXIN?is a new generation artemisinin derivative directly active on all forms of Plasmodium, schizonts and gametocytes. Its action on schizonts insures a rapid decrease of pathogenic parasitaemia which leads to a rapid disappearance of clinical signs; its action on gametocytes prevents contamination. The absorption of COTECXIN?after oral intake is rapid and complete; it is extensively distributed in all tissues. Half life of DHA is very short (less than 2 hours). INDICATIONS COTECXIN?is indicated for the treatment of all kinds of malaria. It is particularly recommended in the case of multi-resistant Plasmodium falciparum malaria. ADMINISTRATION AND DOSAGE Patients should follow their doctors' prescription Tablet and suspension: Oral administration. In case the oral route is not possible (nausea, vomiting, obnubilation?, it is recommended to start the treatment by the rectal route. Please see the dosage table below. ADVERSE EFFECTS Few cases of adverse effects have been reported after administration of COTECXIN? A slight decrease of reticulocytes and an increase of liver enzymes are seldom found ; these changes go back to normal after treatment is stopped. CONTRA-INDICATIONS As all new drugs, COTECXIN?is not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy unless your doctor considers the risk of the disease to be greater. STORAGE Keep all medicines out of the reach of children. Preserve in tight and lightproof containers. Store tablets and suspension in a cool and dry place below 30?C. Store suppository in a cool and dry place below 25?C. The suspension can be stored in refrigerator (+2?C ~ +8?C) for 14 days after being added water. However, if it�s stored at a room temperature, the reconstituted suspension should be within 7 days after adding water. SHELF LIFE COTECXIN Tablets: 3 years. COTECXIN Suspension and Suppository: 2 years. Do not exceed the expiry date indicated on the packaging.
