1. Description:
The secret of reducing the cost of Concrete--Ground Granulated Blast furnace Slag(GGBS), a co-product produced simultaneously with iron, molten blast furnace slag is cooled instantaneously by quenching in large volumes of cold water, known as granulation, to produce Granulated Blast furnace Slag. This process produces a glassy, homogeneous, non-crystalline material that has cementitious properties. The three major chemical components are CaO, SiO2, and Al2 O3 and make up 95% of the slag.
GGBS is cementitious material that can be used to make durable concrete either in combination with Ordinary Portland Cement(OPC) or as a separate constituent where the percentage used is selected to optimize concrete performance for particular applications.
In China and worldwide, the application of GGBS came into the limelight only in the past few years, However, due to the tremendous potential in GGBS, its economic benefits, and its improvements to concrete durability, the use of it has gained significant speed and momentum.
